It’s been hard to commit time to making things in the studio lately. So much of my problem-solving and decision-making energy is taken up by my work at the bakery, and when I’m not at work I want to be outside. Walking, weeding, planting, just laying in the sun…
I do feel like the cakes I’ve been making at work are a creative endeavor of sorts. All the baking/making is, in a way. But I’m not sure it’s actually connected to my studio practice. Cake practice. Bread practice. Art practice? Not quite. Maybe tangentially. But I haven’t figured out what the tangent is yet. It doesn’t feel like any sort of grand pursuit right now.
But in the spirit of a “studio update,” here’s a… “cake update.” A “making update.” What I’ve been up to. I’m going to skip any descriptions and just deposit a dump of photos here: a selection of some of the cakes I’ve smooshed buttercream onto since the start of 2025. You & I can pretend it’s the stuff of a studio newsletter!

Your work IS art.
